Since we attended the Winter Chill Out off season tour at Cedar Point we were entered into a drawing for passes to the Media Day event for Rougarou. We had a 1 in 6 chance and we won! We were each able to bring one guest along for media day so here’s a look at Rougarou media day and Cedar Point opening day!
So what did I think of Rougarou?!? Well it’s a much more improved ride now versus the original Mantis roller coaster. It definitely rides smoother than before and as I mentioned the second half is faster than it was before. Mantis had a great layout but the stand up concept never worked right so it’s amazing to see that it could be converted into a floorless coaster. Kraken at Sea World Orlando was the best floorless coaster I had been on, and after riding Rougarou it’s definitely right up there with Kraken. Also to go from a ride that we wouldn’t ride too much at Cedar Point to now a most likely ride is an awesome addition to the park. Rougarou is up there in my top coasters at Cedar Point and if the line isn’t long for it I’m definitely not going to hesitate to give it a ride, like I would before when it was Mantis. So overall it’s not the flashiest addition this year, (that’ll be next year) but it’s certainly a good one!
At this point we decided to take a walk out to the car and visit the Marina for some exciting views of the park and Rougarou.
Rougarou media day was a great event as always, it was weird there was no morning press conference but instead this media day was all about the rides on Rougarou. You could get plenty of them if you wanted, it was a walk on all morning. Rougarou is a great addition to the park and definitely a huge upgrade over Mantis. Take a ride on it the next time you’re at Cedar Point!
With no park activities till 7 PM we decided to visit Battery Park in Sandusky to get a view of Cedar Point from across the bay.
It was now time to check in to the newly remodeled and redone Hotel Breakers! I always wanted to stay here in the past but heard the rooms weren’t very nice. With the remodel I was excited to check it out on the first night the new hotel opened up! So let’s check out our brand new room.
The room was incredible! Everything about it is top notch. This truly felt like we went away somewhere like Orlando but really we were only an hour from home! So we decided to relax and turn on the TV and find……….
Well after a bit of relaxing and dinner at Perkins, which was very good by the way, it was time for Season Passholder night at Cedar Point!
So far Season Passholder night was a disaster. To be fair Dragster nor Maverick were listed as rides that would be open BUT rides that were not listed did open such as the train. And one big ride that was listed as supposed to be open was Millennium Force which showed no signs of life. The crews were at every ride training, they should’ve replaced Millennium with another ride. Well let’s continue on….
So not the biggest fan of Gatekeeper but it was one of the only coasters open, and because of that I believe we waited about an hour for it which personally I think is way too long. Though after getting off I was able to grab some awesome night shots of the area, so not all was lost.
So overall Season Pass Preview Night was kinda a waste. Good thing we didn’t drive up for just that or we would’ve been very disappointed. This is the first year the Cedar Fair parks have done the Season Pass Preview Nights and while some have gone good, most of them at other parks have been disasters as well. It’s neat to allow season passholders in a day early but hopefully next year they’ll work out some of the kinks. Now back to our beautiful room. 🙂
Millennium Force is sporting new fiberglass bodies on the trains this year. Problem was yellow train was nowhere to be found on opening day, must’ve still been getting ready. So with a two train operation on opening day the line was a little long, however still totally worth it. Millennium is running great this year if not AMAZING! So far the fiberglass trains have made a world of difference on the ride, there’s no rattling and the ride seems so much smoother now. Always an amazing coaster and an even better one this year!
Next up we hopped on the train for a ride around the park.
The newly renovated Hotel Breakers is a huge win for Cedar Point. When staying there it truly does have the resort feel to it. Although the park was a little rough around the edges this year, I’m sure most attention was paid to the hotel in the off season, it’s still a great place to visit. I’m sure it will be in much better shape when we return for CoasterMANIA. So for now so long from Cedar Point and we’ll see you in a few weeks with a HUGE update from CoasterMANIA!
